Below is a visualization and description of some of the most significant incidents of political violence in Nigeria from July 15 to July 21, 2017. This update also represents violence related to Boko Haram in Cameroon, Chad, and Niger. These incidents will be included in the Nigeria Security Tracker.

 

 

  • July 15: Sectarian violence led to seven being kidnapped in Warri South West, Delta.
  • July 15: Sectarian violence led to four deaths in Kajuru, Kaduna. 
  • July 16: Two suicide bombers were shot and killed in Konduga, Borno. Boko Haram was suspected. 
  • July 17: A suicide bomber killed herself and eight others at a mosque in Jere, Borno. Boko Haram was suspected. 
  • July 17: Nigerian troops intercepted and killed a suicide bomber in Maiduguri, Borno. Boko Haram was suspected. 
  • July 16–17: Over two days, thirty-seven were killed as a result of sectarian violence in Kajuru, Kaduna.  
  • July 18: Nigerian soldiers killed a would-be suicide bomber in Maiduguri, Borno. Boko Haram was suspected.
  • July 19: Nigerian troops killed four militants and lost one Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF) member in Rivers (exact Local Government Area unknown). 
  • July 21: Cultists killed two in Ifo, Ogun.
