CFR Names New Adjunct Senior Fellow for Counterterrorism and National Security

Daniel B. Prieto has joined CFR as adjunct senior fellow for counterterrorism and national security. He is the author of the upcoming Council Special Report on civil liberties and national security. He is also vice president and senior fellow for homeland security and intelligence at IBM’s Global Leadership Initiative.

Previously, Prieto was a visiting scholar at Stanford University’s Center for International Security and Cooperation (CISAC), senior fellow and director of the Reform Institute’s
Homeland Security Center, research director of the Homeland Security Partnership Initiative, fellow at the Belfer Center for Science and International Affairs at Harvard University’s Kennedy School of Government, and international affairs fellow at CFR. He served as a senior adviser to the Commission on the National Guard and Reserve and as a member of the Markle Foundation Task Force on National Security in the Information Age. He has been a professional staff member on the
Homeland Security Committee in the U.S. House of Representatives, director of corporate development for America Online, and an investment banker with JPMorgan. Prieto has published widely, including as coauthor, with Council Senior Fellow Stephen E. Flynn, of the Council Special Report Neglected Defense: Mobilizing the Private Sector to Support Homeland Security.
