Although he was a transformational figure in China’s history, Deng Xiaoping has not received a thorough treatment from biographers in the way that Mao Zedong and Zhou Enlai have. But in his new book Deng Xiaoping and the Transformation of China, Harvard professor Ezra Vogel offers the most complete portrait of Deng, his times, and his politics, that has ever been written in English.
